Many insurance companies cover weight loss surgery, however each plan is different and we encourage you to check with your carrier. If you do have a benefit, you will need to meet specific requirements as defined by your plan. All plans are different and change from year to year, so it is important to have your insurance company provide you with the current bariatric surgery coverage policy. Their requirements typically include patients meet certain BMI criteria, undergo a psychological evaluation, meet with a dietician, and lab work.
Please do not open a case with your insurance company. All you need to do is find out if you have bariatric coverage. Opening a case may delay your time though our process and ultimately when you can have surgery.
At the Surgical Weight Control Program at Saint Mary’s, your surgeon’s office will work closely with you to gather your records and arrange the testing and consultations needed to fulfill these requirements as quickly as possible. When you leave your surgeon's office, you will receive a requirement checklist with all your necessary appointments. We cannot schedule your surgery until you have had all your appointments and the surgeon’s office has received clearance from each health professional you met with.
At this time, we are not able to accept self-pay patients or Medicare patients.
